About Marie

Marie Linnekin (1932-2017) was a vibrant member of the Maryland art community for 50 years. The work featured in this online gallery shows the evolution of her work through a variety of striking styles. Her son Richard described her beautifully when he wrote… “Her work was the perfect manifestation of her spirit; complex, colorful, diverse and always surprising!”

  • Showed in over 20 different galleries throughout the region including Annapolis, Baltimore, Washington, Alexandria, Philadelphia and Delaware

      • Art legend Grace Hartigan’s “Large Canvas Show” at St Johns College in Annapolis, MD

      • “New American Paintings”, a juried competition in print for the Mid-Atlantic Region

      • Shows in both the Maryland and United States Capital

      • The “New Abstractions” show at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts

      • The “American Abstraction” show at the Painted Bride Gallery in Philadelphia

      • “Five women painters in Maryland” show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Hagerstown, MD

OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS TO ART COMMUNITY

  • Taught art at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts from 1979-82

  • Served on the Board of  the Maryland Federation of Art and was president from 1980-81.

  • Artist in Residence at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts from 1989-1992,

  • Taught art at the Anne Arundel Community College from 1985-2003

  • Hosted an artist critique group at her home from 2000-2016. Teaching was a true passion and a number of her students went on to become accomplished artists.
